Sarasota Retired Educators Association is pleased to invite Sarasota's 5th graders to enter the annual Essay Contest sponsored By the Florida Retired Educators Association.

The essay subject is: Describe a happy memory of time spent with a grandparent or other elderly person in the student's life. The essay word limit is 500 words.

This year’s winning essay, written by Ksenia Udovik of Garden Elementary in Venice, was forwarded to the district. Ksenia’s winning essay will be submitted to the State level, Florida Retired Educators Association (FREA) essay contest.

Sarasota County Prizes:

First place: $50 each for essay winner and teacher

Second place: $30 each for essay winner and teacher

Third place: $20 each for essay winner and teacher

State FREA Prizes for essay winners:

First place: $150

Second place: $100

Third place: $50
