SREA luncheon meetings feature speakers on local and state issues. Programs address the needs and interests of retirees.

SREA fosters creative literacy in young students by sponsoring a 5th Grade Essay Contest.

SREA members contribute books to local organizations, items for special seasonal projects, and canned goods for local food banks.

SREA recognizes the importance of volunteer work in the community. Many SREA members assist at hospitals/hospice, schools, churches, tutoring centers, community services and literacy programs.

Service hours are reported annually to FREA.

SREA members may participate in the business and political community by attending meetings of the Sarasota Tiger Bay Club. The club hosts panelists who discuss local and political issues.

SREA offers opportunities for additional social activities planned by the Adventure Club.

SREA gives scholarships annually to local high school students. Two or three future teachers are awarded one-year scholarships. The scholarships are funded by donations from members at monthly meetings.

Several local winners have also received FREA (Florida Retired Educators Association) four-year scholarships!
